Archaebacteria
Archaebacteria are primitive prokaryotes and are
adapted to thrive in extreme environments like hot springs, high salinity, low
pH and so on. They are mostly chemoautotrophs. The unique feature of this group
is the presence of lipids like glycerol & isopropyl ethers in their cell
membrane. Due to the unique chemical composition the cell membrane show
resistance against cell wall antibiotics and lytic agents. Example: Methanobacterium, Halobacterium, Thermoplasma.
