ABDOMINAL PAIN

Chronic abdominal pain can have a variety of causes, and it is useful to distinguish between somato-sensory, visceral, and centralized pain symptoms. A differential epidural block may help in elucidat-ing the primary source but is time consuming and may be difficult to interpret. A transversus abdomi-nis plane (TAP) blockade with ultrasound guidance may help treat somatosensory pain and thus may be potentially both diagnostic and therapeutic . The patient with pain of visceral origin may benefit from a celiac or splanchnic block.
