Factitious Disorder by Proxy

·        = Munchausen‟s By Proxy

·        Criteria:

o   Intentional production or feigning of physical or psychological signs or symptoms in another person under the individual‟s care

o   Motivation is to assume the sick role by proxy

o   No external incentives for the behaviour (economic gain, avoiding legal responsibility)

·        Warning signs: child aged 15 months to 6 years, baffling multisystem symptoms, taken to lots of health care providers, over attached parent, no symptoms when parent absent, strange poisonings, reported seizures
