·        Differentiating small and large bowel: large bowel has teniae coli, and haustra are not continuous around inside of lumen

·        Type of colitis:

o  Infective

o  Collagenous

o  Microscopic

o  Pseudomembranous

o  Acute & chronic irradiation

o  Necrotising enterocoloitis

o  Ischaemic

o  Amoebiasis

o  Crohn‟s and Ulcerative

·        Gut layers:

o  Mucosa and muscularis mucosa

o  Submucosa with lamina propria

o  Muscularis propria (two layers)

o  Serosa/adventitia 

·        Melanosis Colis: brown cells at base of crypts - lipofuscin from broken down organelles, correlated with laxative use, no impact
