term means loss of hair and alopecia has many causes and patterns. One
convenient division is into localized and diffuse types. It is also important
to decide whether or not the hair follicles have been replaced by scar tissue;
if they have, regrowth cannot occur. The presence of any disease of the skin
itself should also be noted.
