NEUROPROTECTIVE THERAPY
Among the compounds
under investigation as potential neuro-protective agents that may slow disease
progression are antioxidants, antiapoptotic agents, glutamate antagonists,
intraparenchymally administered glial-derived neurotrophic factor, coenzyme
Q10, creatine, and anti-inflammatory drugs. The role of these agents remains to
be established, however, and their use for therapeutic purposes is not
indicated at this time. The possibility that rasagiline has a protective effect
was discussed earlier.
