NEUROPROTECTIVE THERAPY

Among the compounds under investigation as potential neuro-protective agents that may slow disease progression are antioxidants, antiapoptotic agents, glutamate antagonists, intraparenchymally administered glial-derived neurotrophic factor, coenzyme Q10, creatine, and anti-inflammatory drugs. The role of these agents remains to be established, however, and their use for therapeutic purposes is not indicated at this time. The possibility that rasagiline has a protective effect was discussed earlier.
