Fever: management (green features)

Children with solely green features do not need to be admitted to hospital.

However, other criteria for admission may include additional factors:

•   social and family circumstances;

•   parental anxiety, instinct, or concerns;

•   child’s contact with serious illness;

•   child’s recent travel abroad to tropical or subtropical areas, or travel to any high-risk areas of endemic infectious disease.

If a child is discharged home, then the parents should be given clear instructions about what to look for and when to call for medical help.
