Chronic myeloid leukaemia (adult type)

Classically associated with Philadelphia chromosome +ve disease (t(9;22) translocation). It is rare. It has a chronic phase with non-specific symp-toms (fever, night sweats, and hepatosplenomegaly). During this phase the only cure is BMT. Some benefit from A-interferon therapy. The chronic phase progresses to a blast phase that is similar to acute leukaemia. BMT is required. Prognosis is worse if BMT delayed until blast crisis.
