MYOCARDIAL
RUPTURE
Myocardial
rupture is a rare event. However, it can occur when a myocardial infarction,
infectious process, cardiac trauma, pericar-dial disease, or other myocardial
dysfunction weakens the cardiac muscle (eg, ventricular aneurysm)
substantially. Persistent elevation of the ST segment is an indication of
ventricular aneurysm. Inmany cases, the result of myocardial rupture is
immediate death, even if the patient undergoes immediate cardiac surgery.
