H. pylori in humans causes (a) peptic ulcer disease and(b) chronic atrophic gastritis.

 Peptic ulcer disease

H. pylori is now accepted to be the infective pathogen thatcauses most of the gastric and duodenal ulcers. Treatment of H. pyloriinfection by specific antibiotics, and thereby the elimi-nation of organism from the stomach, results in healing of these ulcers and in marked reduction in the recurrence of ulcers.

 Chronic atrophic gastritis

H. pylori infection causes chronic atrophic gastritis during laterstage of the illness.
