The National Programme for control of visual impairment and blindness
was launched in 1976 is the 100% centrally sponsored and incorprates the
earlier trachoma control programme was started in 1963.

of blindness 1.49% to < 0.3%

infrastructure and efficiency levels in the programme.

To establish eye care
facilities for every 5 lakh population

To develop human
resources for eye care services at all levels.

To imporve quality of
service delivery.
To secure participation of civil society and the private sector.
