Although most of the problems of Mapleson cir-cuits are solved by the circle system, the improve-ments have led to other disadvantages: greater size and less portability; increased complexity, resulting in a higher risk of disconnection or malfunction; complications related to use of absorbent; and the difficulty of predicting inspired gas concentrations during low fresh gas flows.
