Two families of secondary and 16 families of peripheral freshwater fishes of marine origin include freshwater species of catfishes (two marine families, Ariidae and Plotosidae), silversides (Atherinidae), rainbowfishes (Melanotaeniidae), halfbeaks (Zenarchopteridae), needlefishes (Belonidae), Teraponidae, Centropomidae, Percichthyidae, and gobies (Gobiidae).
