When
arranging the spinal tray, where is the antiseptic placed in relation to the
tray’s other constituents?
The spinal tray should conform to a design
devised to prevent contamination of needles and drugs. This is usually achieved
in one of two ways. The tray can be arranged so that the antiseptic is held in
the corner closest to the patient and away from the other contents.
Alternatively, a double-decker setup with the preparation solution and sponges
placed on the upper level can be used. The aim is to prevent dripping
antiseptic onto needles or into drugs that, on introduction into the
subarachnoid space, may produce neurolysis or arachnoiditis.
