Treatment
Tetracycline or erythromycin is most effective for treatment of
relapsing fever. Doxycycline is usually recommended for chil-dren and pregnant
women.
Prevention and Control
Prevention of louse infiltration and the use of insecticide are the
measures that prevent louse-borne relapsing fever. Prevention of tick-borne
relapsing fever consists of wearing protective clothings, use of insect
repellants, and avoidance of ticks and their natural habitat. No vaccine is
available for relapsing fever.
