ii) What is the total of 3 1/3 and 4 1/6 ?

iii) Simplify : 1 3/5 + 5 4/7.

iv) Find the difference between 8/9 and 2/7 .

v) Subtract 1 3/5 from 2 1/3 .

vi) Simplify : 7 2/7 – 3 4/21

i) Find the sum of 1/7 and 3/9.

1/7 + 3/9

[9 + 21] / [7 × 9] = 30/63 = 10/21

1/7 + 3/9 = 10/21

ii) What is the total of 3 1/3 and 4 1/6 ?

3 1/3 + 4 1/6

10/3 + 25/6

[20 + 25] / 6 = 45/6 = 7 (3/6)

= 7 1/2

= 3 1/3 + 4 1/6 = 7 1/2

iii) Simplify: 1 3/5 + 5 4/7

8/5 + 39/7

[56+195] / [5 × 7] =  251/35 = 7 6/35

13/5 + 5 4/7 = 7 6/35

iv) Find the difference between 8/9 and 2/7.

8/9 – 2/7

[56 – 18] / [9 × 7] =  38/63

8/9 – 2/7 = 38/63

v) Subtract 1 3/5  from 2 1/3

2 1/3 − 1 3/5

7/3 − 8/5

[35 – 24] / [3 × 5] = 11/15

vi) Simplify: 7 2/7 – 3 4/21.

51/7 – 67/21

[153 – 67] / 21 =   86/21 = 4 (2/21)

7 (2/7) – 3 (4/21) = 4 (2/21)

Weight of tomatoes = 3 ½  kg

Weight of brinjal = ¾ kg

Weight of Onion = 1 ¼  kg.

Total weight of vegetables Gowri bought

= (3 ½ + ¾  + 1 ¼ ) kg

= ( 7/2 + 3/4 + 1 1/4 ) kg

= ( [14 + 3 + 5] / 4 ) kg  22/4 kg = 5 2/4 kg

= 5 1/2 kg

Total weight of vegetables Gowri bought = 5 ½  kg.

Capacity of oil in the oil tin = 3 ¾  litres

Capacity of oil used = 2 ½  litres

Capacity of oil left over = (3 ¾ − 2 ½ ) litres

= 15/4 – 5/2 = [15 – 10] / 4 =  5/4 litre

= 1 ¼ litre

Capacity of oil leftover = 1 ¼  litre

Length of smal  curtain cut off = 2 1/4 m

Number of small.curtains he will get = Total length / Length of 1 small curtain

= 15 ¾  / 2 ¼

= 15 ¾  ÷ 2 ¼

= 63/4 ÷ 9/4

= (63/4) × (4/9) = 7

Number of small.curtains he will get = 7.
