Describe the techniques for fetal surgery.

Two techniques for fetal correction of CDH are cur-rently under investigation. The first technique is surgical correction of the diaphragmatic defect and reduction of the abdominal contents into the abdominal cavity. This could not be performed if the liver was in the thoracic cav-ity because it resulted in compromised flow through the umbilical vein. The second technique is tracheal occlusion, which has been shown to result in lung development. However, this technique has been fraught with problems and is not widely used.
