Pyloric stenosis is caused by hypertrophy of the circular muscular layers of the pylorus causing gastric outlet obstruction.

Pyloric stenosis is caused by hypertrophy of the circular muscular layers of the pylorus causing gastric outlet obstruction. It usually occurs between 2 and 6 weeks of age but has presented earlier. There is a higher incidence in male infants.
