Chemical Properties and Marketing Information for SCF

The gene for SCF is located on chromosome 12. A longer form (SCF248) and a shorter form (SCF220) can be expressed, both of which are membrane bound. Soluble SCF165 is proteolytically released from SCF248. SCF220 lacks the proteolytic cleavage site and tends to remain membrane bound. The approved rhSCF (ancestim), marketed as Stemgen in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, corresponds to SCF165 plus an N-terminal methionine residue. It is recombi-nantly produced in Escherichia coli and is, therefore, non-glycosylated. Galli et al. (1994), Broudy (1997, Lacerna et al. (2000), and Langley (2004) offer comprehensive reviews of rhSCF.
