The gene for SCF is located on chromosome 12. A longer form (SCF²⁴⁸) and a shorter form (SCF²²⁰) can be expressed, both of which are membrane bound. Soluble SCF¹⁶⁵ is proteolytically released from SCF²⁴⁸. SCF²²⁰ lacks the proteolytic cleavage site and tends to remain membrane bound. The approved rhSCF (ancestim), marketed as Stemgen in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, corresponds to SCF¹⁶⁵ plus an N-terminal methionine residue. It is recombi-nantly produced in Escherichia coli and is, therefore, non-glycosylated. Galli et al. (1994), Broudy (1997, Lacerna et al.
