The Internet is the global computer network
providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of
interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. It is a
network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and
government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of
electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries
a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked
hyper text documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic
mail, telephone, and file sharing.
An intranet is a private network that is contained within
an enterprise. It may consist of many interlinked local area networks and also
use leased lines in the wide area network. The main purpose of an intranet is
to share company information and computing resources among employees. An
intranet can also be used to facilitate working in groups and for
teleconferences. An intranet uses TCP/ IP, HTTP, and other Internet protocols
and in general look like a private version of the Internet.
There’s One Major
Distinction between an Intranet and the Internet: The Internet is an open, public space, while an intranet is designed to be a
private space. An intranet may be accessible from the Internet, but as a rule
it’s protected by a password and accessible only to a company’s employees or
other authorized users.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the standard network
protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on
