Sher Shah (1540–1545)
Sher
Shah was the son of the Afghan noble Hasan Suri, ruler of Sasaram in Bihar. After
overthrowing Humayun, Sher Shah started the rule of Sur dynasty at Agra. During
his brief reign, he built an empire stretching from Bengal to the Indus, excluding
Kashmir. He also introduced an efficient land revenue system. He built many roads,
and standardised coins, weights and measures.
