Sit patient up and give O2
·
Medication:
·
IV frusemide: 40 – 80 mg if not
on any already
o IV morphine: 5 – 10 mg – calming effect, ¯respiratory
rate, venodilator ® ¯preload
o Sublingual nitroglycerine
o If BP > 100 mmHg then captopril 6.25 mg
·
Occasionally CPAP or IPPV
· Pulmonary oedema resulting from near drowning and ARDS does not respond to morphine & diuretics – may require ventilation
