Although delivery of the fetus and placenta are considered the definitive treatment for preeclampsia, it can take hours to days for the symptoms to resolve completely. The patient is still at risk for convulsions. Therefore, the blood pressure should be monitored and the MgSO₄ infusion continued for at least 24 hours after delivery.
