**EXAMPLE**

Write 1283 in words.

**Solution**

First write the given number in
expanded form and write the name of each number below it and then combine that
name.

**1283 = 1000 + 200 + 80 + 3**

**= One Thousand + Two hundred +
Eighty + Three**

So the number−name of 1283 is one
thousand two hundred and eighty three.
