Lymphatic filariasis encompasses a group of diseases produced by certain members of the superfamily Filarioidea that inhabit the lymphatic system of humans.

Lymphatic filariasis encompasses a group of diseases produced by certain members of the superfamily Filarioidea that inhabit the lymphatic system of humans. Their presence in-duces an acute inflammatory reaction, chronic lymphatic blockade, and in some cases, grotesque swellings of the extremities and genitalia known as elephantiasis.
