74-year-old man is scheduled to undergo a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostatic hypertrophy. He has a history of coronary artery disease with stable angina and hypertension. Current medications include metoprolol 5 mg twice a day and amlodipine 10 mg once a day. The physical examination is unremarkable. Heart rate is 74 beats per minute, blood pressure is 160/75 mmHg, and the respiratory rate is 12 breaths per minute. He is 177.5 cm tall and weighs 72 kg.
