Pituitary drugs are natural or synthetic hormones that mimic thehormones produced by the pituitary gland. The pituitary drugs consist of two groups:

 

·                 Anterior pituitary drugs may be used diagnostically or therapeu-tically to control the function of other endocrine glands, such as the thyroid gland, adrenals, ovaries, and testes.

 

·                 Posterior pituitary drugs may be used to regulate fluid volume and stimulate smooth-muscle contraction in selected clinical situ-ations.
