Answer:

i) 1 + 3 = 4 : 5 – 1 = 4

ii) 1 + 3 + 8 = 12 : ? 13 − 1 = 12

iii) 1 +3 + 8 + 21 = 33 : ? 34 − 1 = 33

iv) ? 1 + 3 + 8 + 21 + 55 = 88 : ? 89 − 1 = 88

4. Complete the following patterns.

Answer:

5. Find HCF of the following pair of numbers by Euclid’s game.

i) 25 and 35

ii) 36 and 12

iii) 15 and 29

Answer:

i) 25 and 35

H.C.F. of 25 and 35

25 = 5 × 5

35 = 5 × 7

H.C.F. of 25 and 35 = 5

H.C.F. of (25, 35 − 25)

25 = 5 × 5

10 = 2 × 5

H.C.F. of (25, 10) = 5

H.C.F of 25 and 35 = H.C.F of (25, 35 − 25)

ii) 36 and 12

H.C.F. of 36 and 12

36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3

12 = 2 × 2 × 3

H.C.F. of (12, 36 − 12)

12 = 2 × 2 × 3

24 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3

H.C.F. of (12, 24) = 2 × 2 × 3 = 12

H.C.F of 36 and 12 =  2 × 2 × 3 = 12

H.C.F of  36 and 12 = H.C.F of  (12, 36 − 12)

iii) 15 and 29

H.C.F. of 15 and 29

15 = 3 × 5

29 = 1 × 29

H.C.F. of 15 and 29 = 1

H.C.F. of (15, 29 – 15)

15 = 3 × 5

14 = 2 × 7

H.C.F. of (15, 14) = 1

  H.C.F of 15 and 29 = H.C.F of (15, 29 − 15)

6. Find HCF of 48 and 28. Also find the HCF of 48 and the number obtained by finding their difference.

Answer:

H.C.F. of 48 and 28

48 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3

28 = 2 × 2 × 7

H.C.F. of 48 and 28 = 2 × 2 = 4

H.C.F. of (48, 48 − 28)

48 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3

20 = 2 × 2 × 5

H.C.F. of (48, 20) = 2 × 2 = 4
