Are there any benefits to mild intraoperative hypothermia?
Mild intraoperative hypothermia seems to protect against cerebral hypoxia and ischemia, not only by a reduction in metabolic rate but maybe also by a decrease in excitatory neurotransmitters. While many neuroanes-thesiologists would consider mild hypothermia during craniotomy as a standard of care, conclusive evidence is still lacking.
