Dexamethasone (Decadron), methylprednisolone (Solumedrol), prednisone and hydrocortisone (intravenous form is Solucortef, oral form is Cortef) are the four main steroids available for administration.

Their relative poten-cies are 0.75, 4, 5, and 20, respectively. For example, a patient taking prednisone 5 mg orally per day who needs to be changed to an intravenous form of identical potency would receive hydrocortisone 20 mg intravenously.
