Mild intraoperative hypothermia seems to
protect against cerebral hypoxia and ischemia, not only by a reduction in
metabolic rate but maybe also by a decrease in excitatory neurotransmitters.
While many neuroanes-thesiologists would consider mild hypothermia during
craniotomy as a standard of care, conclusive evidence is still lacking.
