Fill the correct numbers in the following table.

Example: 1

The abacus shows the number: 7,341.

Number name: Seven thousand three hundred and forty one.

Expanded form: 7 thousands + 3 hundreds + 4 ten + one

= 7000 + 300 + 40 + 1

= 7×1000 + 3×100 + 4×10 + 1


 

Try this

Add 4 tens 2 thousands to this number 345678.

Solution:

345678 + 2040 = 347718

= 3×100000 + 4×10000 + 7×1000 + 7×100 + 1×10 + 8×1

 

Activity: 1

The above Abacus shows the number 34,284

Number name: Thirty four thousand two hundred and eighty four.

Expanded form: 3 Ten thousands + 4 thousands + 2 hundreds + 8 tens + 4 ones.

= 30,000 + 4000 + 200 + 80 + 4

= 3×10000 + 4×1000 + 2×100 + 8×10 + 4×1


Abacus:

Abacus is a counting device that consists of a frame holding rods on which a specific number of beads are free to move, each rod denotes place values such as units, tens, hundreds, etc…

Number: 52,41,258

Number name: Fifty two lakhs forty one thousands two hundred and fifty eight.

Expanded form: 5 ten lakhs + 2 lakhs + 4 ten thousands + 1 thousand + 2 hundred + 5 tens + 8 ones

= 5000000 + 200000 + 40000 + 1000 + 200 + 50 + 8.

How many thousands are there in 3,45,789?

Solution: 345 thousands are there in 3,45,789

 

Example: 2

The Abacus shows the number 1, 21, 35, 211

In words. One crore twenty one lakhs thirty five thousand two hundred and eleven.


Expanded form: 1 crore + 2 ten lakhs + 1 lakh + 3 ten thousands + 5 thousands + 2 hundreds +1 ten + 1 one.

= 1,00,00,000 + 20,00,000 + 1,00,000 + 30,000 +5000 +200+ 10 +1

= 1×1,00,00,000 + 2×10,00,000 + 1×100,000 + 3×10000 + 5 × 1000 + 2 × 100 + 1×10 + 1

 

Find it yourself.

Find the sum of the place values of 2 −> 7226382

Solution: 2 + 20000 + 200000 = 220002

Name the number which has 7 zeros after one. Answer: 1 Crore

 

Activity: 3

Given number: 6,42,35,415

Number name: Six crores forty two lakhs thirty five thousand four hundred and fifteen.


Expanded form: 6 crores + 4 Ten lakhs + 2 Lakhs+ 3 ten thousand + 5 Thousands + 4 hundreds + 1 Ten + 5 ones.

 = 6,00,00,000 + 40,00,000 + 2,00,000 + 30,000 + 5000 + 400 + 10 + 5

= 6 × 10000000 + 4 × 1000000 + 2 × 100,000 + 3 × 10000 + 5 × 1000 + 4 × 100 + 1×10 + 5 × 1

 

Example: 3

Write the place value of each digit for the given numbers.

For example: 4 34, 56,789


The place value of 9 is           9 × 1 = 9

The place value of 8 is           8 × 10 = 80

The place value of 7 is           7 × 100 = 700

The place value of 6 is           6 × 1000 = 6000

The place value of 5 is           5 × 10000 = 50000

The place value of 4 is           4 × 100000 = 400000

The place value of 3 is           3 × 1000000 = 3000000

The place value of 4 is           4 × 10000000 = 40000000

 

Let us Know: 100 lakhs make 1 crore

Write the place value of 7 and 1 for the given numbers.

a. 81,70,453

The place value of 7 is 7×10000 = 70000

The place value of 1 is 1 × 100000 = 100000

b. 3,46,710

The place value of 7 is 7×100 = 700

The place value of 1 is 1 × 10= 10

c. 1,87,13,971

The place value of 7 is

7 × 100000 = 700000

7 × 10 = 70

The place value of 1 is

1 × 1 = 1

1 × 10000 = 10000

1 × 10000000 = 10000000
