Women who receive epidural morphine sulfate complain of less pain than women who receive IV or IM morphine sulfate. Morphine sulfate in either the subarachnoid or epidural space provides analgesia for up to 24 hours. The dose of epidural morphine is 3–4 mg and of subarachnoid morphine is 0.1–0.25 mg.
