VESICULAR
STOMATITIS VIRUS
A rhabdovirus, vesicular stomatitis virus, that
causes outbreaks of disease in cattle, pigs, and horses can be transmitted
between animals by arthropods. Human infection is ac-quired by contact with
infected animals but is unusual; it consists of a self-limited febrile illness
and occasional herpes-like eruptions over the lips and mucosa.
