Paediatrics: Testicular trauma

A direct blow to the scrotum may rupture a testis.

Testicular trauma

A direct blow to the scrotum may rupture a testis. The scrotum is too painful to examine clinically and a gentle US examination should be per-formed. If the testis is disrupted surgical exploration and repair is neces-sary to prevent atrophy. If the blow is severe a urethral injury should be suspected and, if necessary, excluded by urethrography
