Frontal Lobe Contribution to Explicit Memory

It is probable that interactive processing between the medial temporal lobe system and the frontal lobes is necessary for explicit memory. The frontal lobe provides an executive in-put to the medial temporal lobe system, imbuing memory with “intelligence” (Moscovitch, 1992). The frontal lobes, through their extensive reciprocal connectivity with the hippocampal for-mation, probably provide input to ordering and placing experi-ence in a spatial–temporal context. The frontal lobes in a sense add goal orientation to memory.
