Describe the postanesthetic concerns in the child with Down syndrome after MRI.

Postanesthetic concerns after MRI are the same as following an anesthetic in the operating room. This child should be observed in either a postanesthesia care unit (PACU) or a recovery area at the MRI location equipped with monitors and nursing personnel. The child can be dis-charged as soon as criteria defined by the facility have been met. Since many MRI examinations are performed on an outpatient basis, a parent should be informed as to what to expect and observe in their child following discharge from the facility. In addition, instructions must be given to the parent to contact the facility immediately if they observe any untoward reaction in their child.
