Anaemias

·         Hb level below normal for age and sex

·        Normal Hb levels:

o  Male 138 – 180 g/l

o  Female 115 – 165 g/l

·        Mild is > 100

·        Moderate is 80 – 100

·        Severe is < 80

·        Symptoms

o  SOB on exertion

o  Tiredness/fatigue

o  Lack of concentration 

o  ¯O2 delivery ® Bring on underlying angina or pain/claudication in legs

·        Signs:  Pale conjunctiva, palmar creases, nail beds: but insensitive test
